Thanks to festivals, elegant galleries, The Birmingham Museum of Art, and affordable living, the Birmingham art community is thriving. Art has been painted into the roots of the city and since 1908, the Birmingham Art Association has been there to guide the art movement along while supporting local artists. Now, Four Seasons gallery in Downtown Homewood has the opportunity so support the Birmingham Art Association.

Birmingham Art Association artists will be the featured guest artists at Four Seasons Gallery. Their work will be on display from March 31, 2014 to April 5th, 2014. There will be an opening reception April 3rd from 5- 8 PM. 20% of sales will be donated to the Birmingham Art Association.

The Birmingham Art Association was founded in 1908 as the first Birmingham Art Club. This was one of the earliest organizations led by artists and art patrons. The group’s primary purpose was and still is promoting the arts in the city. 57 members came together to establish not only an organization, but a movement for culture that would permeate the city for years to come. The group included celebrity G.E. Moretti, sculpture of the world’s largest cast-iron statue, “Vulcan.” The Birmingham Art Association also helped bring art into the architecture of the city by purchasing a fountain by Frank Fleming now in the center of Five Points downtown. The club later founded many art shows and helped fund the Birmingham Museum of Art, established in 1951.

The Birmingham Art Association now represents a rich and diverse group of artists and art lovers of all ages, experience levels, mediums and styles. The group holds member shows, has an online gallery, mattings and gatherings, and provides active networking with other artists. You can find out how to become a member of the Birmingham Art Association by visiting their website, www.birminghamartassociation.org.

Four Seasons Gallery represents Birmingham Art Association artists including Adelaide Booth and Elaine Mays, as well as 40 other artists from the Birmingham area. The first fifty people to arrive the night of the opening can enter to win an original painting. Enjoy art, hors d’oeuvres, wine and a night of art supporting art.
