The Birmingham Art Association was founded in 1908 as the first Birmingham Art Club. This was one of the earliest organizations led by artists and art patrons. The group’s primary purpose was and still is promoting the arts in the city. 57 members came together to establish not only an organization, but a movement for culture that would permeate the city for years to come. The group included celebrity G.E. Moretti, sculpture of the world’s largest cast-iron statue, “Vulcan.” The Birmingham Art Association also helped bring art into the architecture of the city by purchasing a fountain by Frank Fleming now in the center of Five Points downtown. The club later founded many art shows and helped fund the Birmingham Museum of Art, established in 1951.
The Birmingham Art Association now represents a rich and diverse group of artists and art lovers of all ages, experience levels, mediums and styles. The group holds member shows, has an online gallery, mattings and gatherings, and provides active networking with other artists. You can find out how to become a member of the Birmingham Art Association by visiting their website, www.birminghamartassociation.org.
Four Seasons Gallery represents Birmingham Art Association artists including Adelaide Booth and Elaine Mays, as well as 40 other artists from the Birmingham area. The first fifty people to arrive the night of the opening can enter to win an original painting. Enjoy art, hors d’oeuvres, wine and a night of art supporting art.
